Secretary of Advancement  

 

The Secretary of Advancement is responsible for heading up efforts for Student Government to promote itself and the university in South Carolina.  This includes visiting high schools and communities.  The secretary will coordinate Cocky’s Reading Express trips.  She will work with the Development office to raise funds for the university.  The secretary plans events in which other universities visit Carolina to discuss issues and exchange ideas.  She also helps the President promote economic development among students.     

 

 

 

Secretary of AThletics 

 

The Secretary of Athletics is responsible for serving as the official Student Government representative to the Athletic Department.  The secretary works on issues such as student ticket distribution, the use of the Carolina Card at games, instillation of ATM machines at athletic facilities, Game day security, transportation to the games, and school spirit.  The secretary also works with the Senate Athletics Committee to organize efforts to improve student attendance at athletic events. 

 

Attorney general

 

The Attorney General assists the President in Student Government legislative and judicial matters. The AG will assist the President in organizing the new Constitutional Council. He also serves as the official liaison to the Carolina Student Judicial Council (CSJC).  Other duties have been described in the Student Government Executive Codes.

The Secretary of Education serves as the chief academic leader in Student Government.  She will work with Faculty Senate Chairman Reeder to organize a liaison committee.  She is responsible for recommending student members to serve on this committee.  The Secretary assists the President in devising a plan to improve the academic advisor system at USC.  This will involve surveying students to determine what desires they have for their advisement experience.  The Secretary will continue Student Government’s efforts in implementing the grade forgiveness program.  The Secretary also assists the President in his crusade to lower textbook prices.  This will mostly be through presenting to professors on what can be done to reduce the financial burden on students, and addressing the issue at the state and federal levels.

The Secretary of Environmental Affairs will be responsible for working with the Secretary of Sustainable Living to implement a bike fleet program at Carolina.  He will work with the Secretary of Safety to create the Path Through Carolina on campus.  The secretary is the leader of a university-wide recycling effort. He is also instrumental in leading efforts to make USC a more environmentally friendly community.

The Advisor is responsible for overseeing the Freshmen Council.  These duties have been described in the Student Government Constitution and Freshmen Council Constitution.

secretary of government and community relations

 

The Secretary of Government and Community Relations is responsible for working with the City of Columbia to add bus routes from campus to Columbia commercial districts.  He will assist in getting Governor Sanford to appoint a student liaison.  He is instrumental in establishing the City of Columbia Student Advisory Board.  He will coordinate the monthly leadership luncheons.  The Secretary serves as the official USC Representative to the SCSSA.  He also serves as an advocate for Student Government at City Hall, the Statehouse and Capitol Hill, and co-coordinate the Congressional Advisory Board with the Student Body Treasurer.

The Secretary serves as a link between the President and the Greek Community.  She and her counterpart are responsible for making sure that the Greek Shuttle is being utilized.  They organize efforts for the President to visit fraternities and societies on campus.  The secretaries attend Council meetings representing the Student Government.  They also work with the Office of Greek Life to build a coalition between them and Student Government.

The Secretary of Health Services is responsible for assisting the Health Center Director in creating an advisory board of students.  He works with the President to address student health concerns on our campus. The Secretary works with other university offices to find ways to make our campus a healthier place.

The Secretary of Institutional Affairs is responsible for nominating students to serve on university committees.  The secretary works with the President to make sure all committees have student representation.  The secretary assists students in meeting with university officials to address their concerns.  She will also represent the students’ interest in Innovista efforts.

The Secretary of Minority Affairs serves as Student Government’s official representative to the minority students on our campus.  The Secretary will be charged with the task of organizing a minority advisory council to the President, and will devise a plan for addressing minority issues on campus.

The Secretary of Organizational Affairs serves as the official liaison between the President and the Student Organizations.  The secretary will be responsible for disseminating information to the organizations from the President.  He also takes organization matters to the President.  He assists the Student Body Treasurer in advocating the financial needs of student organizations to the Finance Committee.  The secretary also schedule times in which Student Government leaders will meet with organizations on campus.

The Secretary of Transportation & Safety is responsible for working to implement the weekend shuttle.  The secretary assists in securing funding to purchase new bus shelters on campus.  A major project of the secretary will be to head the task force to look into finding out whether or not SG needs to call on Parking Services to move or add shuttle stops, or even take some of them away. The secretary works with parking services to create an incentive program for carpoolers and more off-campus parking lots are also options.  The Secretary works with Parking Services to expand the Greek Shuttle and Transportation for students to the Airport and Train Station during Holidays.  He also works with university officials to create off-campus parking lots.
